Introduction

Home automation is a technological giant today.Current, home automation devices are focused on aiding humans in solving problems but the next step is to have their home come alive to autonomously solve problem. If executed properly at a low cost, a kitchen automation tool will revolutionize the future of home cooking having an extra helper in the kitchen. We wanted to explore this field and see what it would take to create a functioning robot.

Goal:

Our goal is to provide a cohesive kitchen automation experience. We plan on doing this by introducing a robot arm that will  provide aid in tasks such as pouring a drink. We intend to deliver a fully functional arm, and container identification ability. The end goal is to explore kitchen automation as well as see how some of these ideas would work in our daily lives.

Approach

Task 1:ARM

  • Subtask 1: Design of arm
  • Subtask 2: Fabrication of arm
  • Subtask 3: Adding motors on arm
  • Subtask 5: Testing the moving capabilities of the arm and adding a weight
  • Subtask 6: Attaching the ‘hand’ so it can grab objects + testing

Task 2: Machine Vision

  • Subtask 1: Image processing with camera
  • Subtask 2: Attaching the camera +testing
  • Subtask 3: Making sure everything works together
