Heart Rate Monitoring Based on Image Processing

      • We have different skills to compensate with each other to tackle with different tasks in hardware and software. The mentors gave Ren's credit on his programming expertise, and aknowleged Soriano's proficience in circuit signal processing and filter design. Baesd on these facts, these mentor think it doable, and they all conceded that our topic is relevant to their researching thrusts.(i.e., how would you convince a mentor to take your team?)

    • Micheal Green
    • I have checked Prof.Green's research thrust and found that he has been focusing on the digital and analog signal processing, which is exactely what we are concerned with. Besides, his research of broadband circuit design will contribute to our work on filters. I sent him the email to ask him to be our mentor by stating out basic imformation of the topic. He said he will consider our request and said he could offer the relevant technich and knowledge support.
    • We have emaied Prof. Demsky and Prof. Healey based on their experience on data processing and algorithms. However, both of them turned us down due to that they were overcommitted this term. I also contacted Prof. Bagherzadeh who is focusing on computer systems. He turned us down because our topic are not tighly connected with his thrust.
    • Since we haven't found any suitable mentor, we decided to contact Prof.Lin given his expertise in object-orinated computing. We will drop by his office hours and talk to him in detail about how throughly we have contrived our project and what skills we have to guarantee the complementation of this design.

    • In each systole and diastole, hearat bumps blood to each part of body, which results in the slight bur periodical changes in the color of human skin. Cameras can capture these changes, and by designingalgorithms we can ectract heart rate by face detection, blind source separation, filtering and Fourier transformation.
    • This topic is chosen by Yutian Ren, given the course he had taken on computer vision.
    • We all conceded with this idea, since it is doable and related with the latest technology about face detection, which will prepare us for the future career in the software technology company. And it is relating to health care, which makes it even more meaningful to us.
    • Yutian Ren will do the programming due to his knowledge in image processing. Soriano will focus on the camera signal extraction and processing given his expetise in circuit. Mengqi Wang will be in charge of the framework construction and the paper writing.
    • This topic is related to bio-signals and medical detection,which will require us to talk to the biomedical professor for the signiture characteristic of the heart rate change and the relevant affect it has on human body to make it be adoptable to the medical care in reality. Besides, this project requires both circuit design and image processing to make it a comprehensive topic concerning to different fields of knowledge and thus enrich each one's expertise with more sufficient experience to prepare us for a broader future career choice.
