I am pleased to inform you that Northrop Grumman has provided a grant to UCI Engineering and ICS. A portion of the grant is identified for student projects in the EECS department.
We would like to offer the opportunity for students and faculty to use the grant for senior design projects which address topics in these domains:
We have a student (Linda Banh) who interned with us the past two summers who has a topic that is aligned and one of our engineering managers (Dr. Jeffrey Yang) will be mentoring the project team. The objective of the senior design project is to construct and validate an airborne communication link model via over-the-air measurement, taking into account parameters such as altitude, observation angle, and atmospheric attenuation. We hope that the team can find an advisor with aligned interests. Linda told me that Professor Green is currently identified, but that was based on a project idea that has since been modified. I had thought the following Professors might be appropriate: DeFlavis, Jafar, Swindlehurst, Yousefi’zadeh, Capolino.
We would like to work with up to two more teams (with topics aligned to the list above). We would identify mentors as students select topics that are aligned. Is there a way for you to communicate this information to the students in the design project class before all of them select their topics?
We are scheduling a meeting with the Schools on October 10th through Nancy Kim Yun focused on opportunities for collaborative research. I hope to discuss this in more detail with you either during that meeting (assuming you are invited) or afterwards.
Best regards,
Steve
